When the movie makers decided that New Zealand was going to be the location for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, no one really understood the impact this would have on tourism in New Zealand. The scenery and landscape were perfect - almost as if Tolkien had modelled his tales on this very country. Luckily many of the locations used are very accessible and in some cases scenes and locations recreated so that fans and followers can once again immerse themselves in the fantastic world created back in 1937.
